As we drive quietly through the Tarangire, I pause as a gigantic bull elephant majestically crosses the road in front of our vehicle, its mighty shadow falling on the red earth illuminated by the evening sun. The next morning, as the sun gilds the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, we encounter a family of lions relaxing on the still cool grass, a sight that makes every heart beat faster.
